>I went back down to the original message and found your link to the crane. It appears to be the same one Harbor Freight is selling but with the Buffalo lable. I've never been a fan of Buffalo tools, but then again I've only been marginally satisfied with the crap I've bought from H.F. That being said, consider this: The unit from Sportsmans Guide says that in addition to normal shipping charges, there will be an additional $10 heavy item charge.
If you convince yourself that this is no better quality than that which H.F. offers, then you can call H.F. at 1-800-423-2567 and order item #01647-1RCH for $69.99. Tell them you are ordering from catalog 747-E, the spring 2004 catalog. (The crane is on page 21, and appears identical to the Sportsmans guide unit.) This cat. has a coupon on the back for free shipping, free attache, and $5.00 off with any order of $39.99. Tell the operator you have coupon #379-541-764 to get the free shipping and $5.00 off the order. For the free attache, tell the operator you have a coupon for "the special gift offer item 35233-0RCE". The coupon expires August 1, 2004.
You can check out the crane at harborfreight.com. Search for crane. The crane mentioned by Duane in the original thread is shown among the cranes in this search. It is the truck bed mounted one with the right angle boom extending from the end and has an integral hand operated winch. He and I have used it to hoist some BIG stuff into his truck. If you like the idea of the crane having a winch also, search for item 41694 while you are on the H.F. site. This winch could be added to the $64.99 crane with a little bit of tinkering. The cable at the bottom of the winch page is a match and the two would set you back less than $26.
For email, remove the "-nospam-" from above. Al
