First, I'd like to thank Dewey Garret who helped me out in San Jose, CA. I saw his work and it was fantastic.
I'll be in Atlanta for about a week and wondered if anyone could help me out and let me know what events might be happening, places to visit, and/or a good place to shop for exotic wood.

>It depends on where you are staying. Highland Hardware typically hosts the GA Association of Woodturners on the 3rd Thursday of the month. There are other groups that meet in different parts of the metro Atlanta area - all of them have web pages. In terms of wood - Highland Hardware has some but not much. Atlanta Wood Products (see link) has a nice selection as does Peachstate Lumber (if you are up I-75 way). I don't shop for wood at HH, only tools.

>Highland Hardware is always worth a trip. And as mentioned before, Atlanta Wood Products and Peachstate Lumber have great turning wood (expensive). And we also have Woodcraft and Rockler. When are you coming and where in Atlanta do you expect to be? Maybe I (and others) can hook up with you. And the next meeting of the GA Assoc of Woodturners is on May 20 at 7pm (Thurs) at Highland Hardware. I'll be there.

>When you go to Highland, put aside at least an hour. You can talk to Mike or Phil, both accoplished woodturners and good people. Generally, other turners will show up so there's always a possibility for conversation. The V. Highland area is one of the most eclectic and interesting places in the city.
Also if you are flying it, there is a superb turning display on Concourse T. If you are not flying, you can make arrangements to tour through the airport security.
Enjoy the city, drink Coke, fly Delta.

Thanks to Jerome, Harvey and David. After meeting with Nick Cook [ a real great experience] I made the pilgramage to Highland Hardware. =0)
Harvey, I'm in the Decatur area until Monday so I won't be able to make that meeting.
David, of course I flew Delta and drank coke. My mom and wife are from Atlanta. You did forget to mention the peanuts though. =o)
