>Hey Dudes,

Any one ever turn Ailanthus or Tree of Heaven ?

thanks,

Larry

>Hey Larry, I have cut some for firewood, but it doesn't seem too attractive, at least to me. It checks heavily in the wood pile.

>I turned a couple of wine stoppers the other day from Ailanthus. If you turn it green be prepared for a big stink. I have also used it as an accent panel when I did flat woodwork. There is a picture of Ailanthus in the wood library on the Wood Finder site.

>I've turned this wood both wet and dry. It's in the Sumac family and orginally came from China. It turns and looks a lot much like Ash. The piece I turned had some yellow, green, and brown coloration and had a very pulpy pith. I noticed some tickling in my throat and upper chest irritation after turning this wood. I highly recommend using a respirator at all times when working this wood.
