Log hoist?

>Since tearing up my back 10 days ago, I've been trying to figure out easier ways to get "free" logs into my truck bed (are they still free if it costs $500 for chiropractic work?). All ideas for cheap solutions welcome!

There was a tip in American Woodturner on building a lever type log hoist. I didn't keep the photo on my computer but I can copy the tip and send it to you if you'll send me your mailing address.
I can describe it. It was basically a ladder about or 6 feet long with a board placed near the middle. The log is rolled on the ladder and stops at this board. The board is placed so it's exactly the height of your truck bed and large enough to keep the log in place while you lift the other end.
It's kind of like dumping a wheelbarrow into your truck. It doesn't remove all the lifting weight but reduces it tremendously.

>what about something like an engine hoist. you could set it in the ground, hoist the log into the bed, and then place the hoist back into the truck.

>I have the same problem.Bad back.So I got a truck hoist from Harber Freight and 1/2" steel plate about 24"X24" all fo under $100.Bolted it all to the back left corner of the bed.I have lifted logs 30"X40" with it with out any problems.I hope this helos.

>Look in Harbor Freight they have a small fold up hoist that mounts in the rear corner of your pickup bed. I think it will lift about 500 lbs. it folds up out of the way when not in use.

>I have the harbor freight hoist on my truck, but I use a length of steel tubing to extend the reach so I can lift a log of great diameter high enough with a chain attachemed to allow it to swing into the truck bed easily.

>This is a log trailer built by John Tolly. To use it back the trailer over the log. Lift it with the hoist and chain the VW front end under it. Move the trailer to the fromt end and again hoist and secure it. Drive away.
