problems turning mulberry?

>hi guys,
i've been cutting up and turning some of this mulberry that i have but i'm running in to problems with small checks and cracks the more i turn. it seems like they are on the inside of the wood. the wood is still very wet so i know its not drying too fast.
the logs that i have are huge, highly figured and have some bark inclusions that go all the way to the center. is it because of the bark inclusions?
thanks alot for any help and if any turners in the chicago area want some of this mulberry you are welcomed to have some of it (too heavy to ship).
