>Hello: I just got a request from a member of the church that i attend to make some oak collection plates. Unfortunately the lathe that I have now, a delta midi, is not large enough to make them. The plates that they had samples of were made of molded plastic, were expensive and didnt really look that nice. Does any one know of any turners that make collection plates or have made them themselves and would be willing to make some more? Any contacts would be appreciated. Thanks Jared

ps and no I can not justify buying a larger lathe right at the moment so I could make them myself

I would be willing to let you use my lathe if you would like to make the trip to Joliet. I am about 2 hours( 1.5 if you drive like me) from the state line just off I-80. I have all the tools to make them all you need is the blanks and the day to come on over. I will be more than willing to help. I can even see us putting some food on the grill too! I also have some well-dried 8/4 quartersawn white oak that might volunteer itself, depending upon how many plates you need.

>Jared, this is not going to help you with your problem but an interesting story anyway. I know this guy from Oklahoma who made 8 collection plates for his church to their size specifications. However, when they got them, they complained that they were too small. My friend told them to cut a hole in the bottom and attach a Walmart bag below them. Ha!!
