A day with David

Phil Joines Krum, Texas

>Ellsworth that is.

The Woodturners of North Texas (Fort Worth) invites one of the big guns to do a Saturday demo for the club and several days of hands on each year. This year we were able to get David to brave the wild west.

LOML and I were able to spend the day with him yesterday. In the morning he showed how to use his gouge and explained some of the finer points of both use and sharpening. The afternoon was hands on. LOML chose to do a "conventional" bowl. I tried a hollow form.

I have to say it was one of the best days I've spent turning. David is very personable and friendly.

BTW, he has a new DVD on the gouge. It is not a re-recording of the tape, witch I have, and I think has better close up shots. It's not in the catalogs yet so you'll need to get it directly from his web site.
