Chinaberry is in the mahogany family and is the only mahogany that grows in the U.S. It is not native, but rather was brought in and has become naturalized. It is fairly soft and is a ring porous wood. The trees we have here in Louisiana have a range of color in the wood within the tree, from an orange to a tan color.

The one fact I remember when I was researching the wood is the warning about toxicity. Evidently, almost every part of the tree; leaves, berries, twigs, etc. are considered poisonous. Be sure and take precautions against exposure to the dust.
It is beautiful wood, for a fact.
