Joel Hunnicutt and I used one up at the NC Woodturning symposium, and we were pretty impressed. It is one of two lathes I am considering when I upgrade. I would be happy to talk to you about it at Southern States next weekend.

I've got a Vega and I really enjoy using it. I'm a hobbyist but I do a fair amount of turning. On occassion it will bind slightly, but generally because I'm trying to put too much beef to it! I've turned big, 30 lb. canadian maple burls without the slightest bit of problem.

I think it's a great machine and would recommend it highly.

>Jay What motor option do you have? Is the tail stock bored thru like on a Woodfast or is it solid like a One Way. I presently have a Woodfast short bed and one of the things I do is bore the thru hole for lamps.The Vega would enable me to turn a 4" greater diameter object. Thanks for the reply. Would love to get in the truck and drive for a couple of hours and be in NH. Bet I would collect a couple of speeding tickets or be so fast the law would not even see me.

Oneway tailstock

Can't help on any info on the Vega, but on my Oneway 2436 the tailstock is drilled thru. It may be different on the smaller lathes from Oneway. But on mine, it is just a little over 5/16"

I have a buddy that has the 1224 and loves it. I did not realize it wasn't drilled thru.

I wonder if the 1640 has a hollow tailstock? Seems like a nice feature for certain projects.
