>I think that the finest of the SW Indian pottery is Mata Ortiz, made in the Casa Grande area in Mexico. I have one piece and wish I had more. It's expensive. It should be an inspiration for the segmenting turners. Here's a link to see for yourself.

>Hello Wally,

That is some fantastic work!! And most of the prices are very reasonable. There is certainly much we can learn from these talented artists.

Thanks for the link, it is already in my favorites.

>Dave, I had the good fortune to be invited by a dealer of Mata Ortiz pottery, in Nogales, Mexico, to attend a demonstration by a potter from Mata Ortiz. Since I live only 40 miles north of Nogales, I attended. She was there for three days. The first day she made a pot, the second day she painted, and that was fantastic. The third day she fired one in an open fire in the traditional way. Some of her pots sell for as much as $5000! A very educational and enjoyable demonstration.

>The various designs are fabulous! Hand painted, free hand, with no pattern to follow. Fascinating to watch. They use a brush made from 4 or 5 hairs from a childs head, and about 4 inches long. True artists.

>Thanks for the link Wally,

I really enjoyed the site. What great inspiration. What great talent. I will look at pictures of the bowls the next time I mount a blank.

You also gave me another good reason to visit the kids in Phoenix!
