>The former Woodcraft near me had its Powermatic 3520 lathe mounted on the casters Woodcraft sells. It raised the midpoint up to about the 48" mark or so. Comfortable for peopel close to 6 feet. For shorter people you can always have a platform to stand on.

I'm not sure if the casters were the 3", 4", or 5" models. But they fit fine it seemed.

Yes, I started the Bi-City Woodturners about a year ago. We have 27 Paid Members from Columbus, Phenix City, Auburn, Opelika, Pine Mountain, and prospective members coming from Montgomery (since the club there died), and one guy who might start coming up from the GA/FL Border. We currently meet at 9am the second Saturday of each month (meeting last Saturday - demo subject was sanding and finishing) at Columbus Technical College. Next month demo is on various chucking methods, may be a visiting demonstrator, or we will do our own.

Email me. Would love to have you come down. We have several very experienced turners but also have people that just decided to start turning and bought a lathe last month.

Last month we had Terry Daniel down with his VB36 to demo. We have had Hal Simmons, Nick Cook, Andi Wolfe, and other great demonstrators.

I just posted a pic of Henning Johansen's (from WOW) mobile base on this forum not a week ago. I think it's one of the best solutions I've ever seen. I'm actually making my own version (with a twist of course).

>We move our lathe (Stuby) at our club also. We had a dolly made up with casters about 5 inches in diameter. We jack it up and lower legs on each end of the lathe, tighten the set screws and then lower and remove the jack. This is repeated to get it back on the casters after the demo. I think you could do a similar thing with the Powermatic. I think you could attatch a caster system to the area where the shelf fits. We can easily adjust the height of the lathe to the turners wish.

I checked with Vega. They have one for a little over a hundred that doesn't raise the lathe but about a 1/2" when in the down position. It doesn't raise up a whole lot when on the wheels so you would need to check with them to make sure it would get from your shed to the room where you demo.

I bought the one for for my bandsaw and really like it. It's basically just corners and a device for raising the machine. You connect all these with wood so it would be easy to modify the footprint to make it more user friendly for a lathe.
