>Just got the Harbor Freight 2" Mini Lathe Chuck; 2MT shank and two mini tommy bars. Not your common Chinese knockoff, this 'un is made in India. Item number 04486, about $20 thru the catalog or internet. Chuck body is 2" diameter (almost) and jaw capacity is about 1" diameter before becoming loose enuff to fly off.

Kinda thot at that sale price I'd try it with dowels and such. Looks like it's made for metal lathe applications so innards might choke up on woodchips. Stepped jaws can be reversed but #1 and #3 jaws have to switch positions.

>The 2MT shank is threaded to the chuck body and unscrews easily. It's a RH thread and would not be a problem turning. I think.

>Just a warning. When you open the jaws they stick out of the chuck. They ARE a knuckle buster if you are not carefull. I just got one also & got nicked by the jaws in the first 5 min. of use.

>Hi Al, A rubber band cut from a bike innertube etc. might be less messy than tape. The threaded Morse taper might serve as an arbor for holding a variety of fittings on the lathe spindle. I bet you just wanted to buy something, so the bargain chuck.:) Arch
