>Deft is a Lacquer, and as such is does not need sanding between coats for adhesion.
I generally spray 3-4 light coats, 10-20 min between coats, and then let is stand at least 24 hours before sanding any of the nibs off and spraying it again.
The number of coats that you need depends on the result you want. If you want no grain to show through - i.e. Glass like finish, it will depend on the openness of the grain - Walnut and Oak can take 10-15 coats with lots of sanding between.
If you are working with Maple, you may only need about 5 coats.
If you want an Oil like finish, with Lacquer protection, you can apply a coat of deft - thinned 50/50 with lacquer thinner, let it set for 20 minutes, and then wipe it clean with a rag dampened with lacquer thinner. This will result in a pretty nice finish with no hint of lacquer shiny-ness.

>I have used Deft finish for about 6 years and the way that I apply it is : I brush on deft straight from the can and then dip my brush in the laquer thinner and dilute the deft. I keep on putting coats on untill no more soaks in and then I hit it with lhinner and wipe it down and do this three or four times. Let dry for a couple of hours and the buff it on the Beal buffing system. Instead of using the carnauba wax, Iuse renaissance wax. Get finger print free finish.
