I don't do much of that and I'm still learning. I use an offbrand Foredom type flex tool with a handgrip that takes a 1/4" collet. Then I use a sanding drum that is 3" long and about 1" diameter. I have 3 different sizes and I don't remember where I got them. I'll have to look.

I tried the little dremel sanding drums and they don't work very good. I've also use the 1/2" strip sander. It works well. I'm saving my money, there expensive.

Thanks, Had not really thought of that for the coves. If you remember where you got the sanding drums, please drop me a note. I have a dremel flex shaft.

I still need something for the beads that have V-shaped bottoms.

I learned about it from Ron Fleming, and I couldn't do some of my carved pieces without it!

I now remember I bought one of my sanders from Frank Sudol. I'm pretty sure they are like the ones that Klingspor sells called sleeveless Drums.

Most of those come with 1/2" shanks. I turned the shank down on one with my little metal lathe.

I noticed they now have "Quick Lock sanding drums that all come with 1/4" shanks. You do have to use the Klingspor sanding sleeves which limits the type of paper you can use but they might be interesting.

In case you or anyone else doesn't know, MSC Direct carries the sander and the replacement sleeves in all the grits. Their prices seem ok, but i have not shopped around. I figure it's cheaper to order from them than go to Lowes and find out they don't have all the grits in stock.

I've had mine for couple of years and it's worked well.
