>Hello Gary; I'm new to turning and have a Jet mini that I'm going to put some wheels on the jet stand. I found some wheels in the Woodcraft catalog that I drill a 1/2 in. hole and use a half inch bolt for attachment. I was told it might vibrate a little more but being small it shouldn't be a problem. I can only imagine a larger lathe having a bigger problem.
I have followed the advice this group has given and all is OK.
good luck and let us know the outcome

>At one time Oneway offered wheels which attached directly to the legs and even had a pipe handle in order to move thier lathes around. These wheels were meant strickly to transport a lathe from one place to another and were meant to be removed before using the lathe.I can`t say as I would recommend using any lathe with wheels permanently attached.Even locking casters will swivel alittle when you use the lathe for support during a cut. This usually happens during a final cut with a skew on a long, thin spindle, most likely one that took you longer than it should have to turn in the first place. You also won`t have any more of the wood needed to turn a replacement.Trust me,wheels are not a good idea for the long term.

>I just want the wheels for temp so that I can move the lathe to get it placed before using it as I am moving to a new shop which will be in a 3 car garage and will need to move it until I have some work done on the shop to be. I have no plans to do turning unless the lathe is flat on the floor.

>Gary,
I mounted "total locking casters" directly to the pre drilled holes in the stand. It raised my lathe 4 1/8" which I like since i am 6'4". The lathe is still rock solid. I bought the wheels from woodcraft. The 3" model designed to be bolted directly to equipment. (single 1/2" hole.)
They list for $15 each but where on sale when I orderd them for $13.
Hope this helps,
