New maple bowl

keith zimmerman, Normal, IL

>Here is a picture of a new maple bowl I completed last night. It is soft maple and is 5 1/2" in diameter, 2 1/2" deep, and between 3/32 and 1/8" thick. It currently has one coat of Minwax Tung Oil Finish on it and will receive at least 2-3 more coats before being buffed.

I am very pleased with the grain I found in this piece of wood.

This is the first bowl I have done in soft maple and found that I had one heck of a time with torn grain. It took quite a while, but I was able to remove it.

Thanks for looking.

>Looks good Keith, nice wall thickness.

I too have had trouble with what we call Maple i n the UK tearing out grain wise. Really sharp tools then 60 grit usually sort it :o)
