Minimum Thickness for roughed bowl
Ryan McMullen
>O.K. I've searched and I could not find an answer to my question. I have several small bowl blanks (6" or less in diameter) and I am curious what should the rough turned thickness should be. I know that the general rule is 1" for every 10" in diameter, so going that rule a 5" bowl should be roughed to 1/2", that seems kinda thin to me. Does it matter more on what the wood is rather than the size? I am turning black walnut and boxelder. I did rough one bowl last night and I left it about 3/4" thick and coated with anchorseal, guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Thanks in advance.
