question on friction polich finish

>I have used tung oil varnish for bowls for a long time. Now that I have started doing pens I use friction polish on top of sanding sealer. It makes a very nice finish. Question - On larger things like bowls is friction polish practical? I know it has to be applied with the lathe on high speed and with fast constant burnishing with a cloth. I have had the experience of friction polish beading or lining up on a pen without fast constant movement. I am just wondering if a bowl has to much surface to maintain that fast constant burnishing like on a pen. I really do like the sanding sealer-friction polish finish but I am not sure it will owrk on a bowl-anything up to say 12" diameter.
