>I made a LOT of cold calls. There appears to be at least one other turner in my area that has done the same thing. I got frustrated at first but kept trying and finally found one in my zip code that has to pay to dump their logs. Nice little lady in the office who will be getting a few bowls from me. She even offered to have her guys bring the logs back to their office so I could pick them up if I can't get there. Another company offered to drop the logs off at my home but I have no storage room for that.

Some of the companies said they have their logs milled, and since I wasn't interested in branches we didn't go any further. Others had "insurance" problems with me coming on site. I'm persistent and eventually got a good hit.

Taking a case of beer to the job site with me has been well received, too.

>And I'm not a drinker so the beer for me is always in the cooler. I find its a great way to garner the friendship and cooperation of workers who don't really need to help me out in order to get their jobs done. Haven't yet seen one of them crack one open on the job.

I'm whooped. I got 4 of the large trunk sections 22" in length each. Was all wormy/ambrosia/curly maple! What a score! But what a lot of work. I'm pooped. Wound up with 32 bowl blanks, many of them 20" in diameter. All had curl or worms or both in them. Delighted!

Thats a 25" bar in that pic - another reason I ask them to cut them to 22", and my lathe can take 20" so there's room for checks and errors.

BTW, this is the first spring in recent years that the bulbs have actually come up on time. They usually come up way earlier than normal and then freeze off. The daffodils have just opened, too, but no tulips yet.
