Peppermill question (repost)

>I think this one got buried in all the posts yesterday. And I really need any ideas, so I'm posting this again.

I finished a peppermill this past weekend with Walnut Oil. It was sanded through 1500, coated twice, dried, sand at 1000 and 1500 again, recoated and is now dry (as far as I can tell). The wood is "Morado".

Can I apply a carnuaba wax finish over this to give it a bit more shine? Or should I just let its use give it the lustre it needs? Or is there another polish I can apply over oil to give a bit more shine to it?

>I've never used walnut oil on a pepper mill, but being one of my favorite bowl finishes, I've used it many times on bowls. I recently buffed out a bowl finished with walnut oil using the Beal buffing system and the final buff is with Carnuba wax. The bowl really did shine. I think, therefore, that the use of a final wax buff on your pepper mill just might give you the shine that you want.

Personally, I've not had that much luck buffing over a danish oil finish (I haven't tried it with walnut oil), at least not to a lasting, high gloss finish. However, I don't know exactly what finish you're wanting to get. I have found the best finish for my peppermills, for a long lasting high gloss finish, is lacquer. I made my brother and his wife a set several years ago, and they still look like I just finished them, other than the wood has darkened. After trying a few mills with the oil / buffing, I have gone back to the lacquer finish for most of the mills, anyway.
