Who Supplies Lee Valley's Pen Kits

Caleb in Carnduff

>I'm wondering who supplies the mandrels and pen kits Lee Valley sells. Is it Penn State?

Lee Valley's selection isn't very big, and I'm wondering if my mandrel and bushings from LV can be used with Penn State kits. Or Berea???

Also with the strength of the Canadian dollar, it makes more sense to order from Penn State right now.

Thanks in advance,

Caleb

>Hi Caleb,

They kind of look like Berea kits to me. I don't see any reason not to order straight from Berea. And don't worry too much about your mandrel fitting other people's kits. I use Berea mandrels, and I use kits from Penn State, Berea and Craft Supplies without a problem. The only place where I've heard of a problem is with Penn State bushings on somebody else's mandrel, because they are made for PSI's slightly thinner mandrel. But I have even used PSI bushings on my Berea mandrel, and have had no problems (but I may just be lucky!).

Good Luck! And have fun turning!

Scott.

>Caleb,

I have the Lee Valley adjustable mandrel (adjustable for length by using a set screw in the MT end. I have used the berea streamline bushing set on this mandrel with no problem -if that helps.
