Wood (what else?)
Ruth
>Regarding those goblets; I have a lot of locust (probably black locust?) from a tree cut down about 15 mo. ago. It was a huge tree, the pieces I have are still wet but I've turned several items that have not cracked or warped enough for me to see. Do you think I could turn the stems from this wood, take it right to finished design, stain/dye/paint, bag it and it would stay true?
This is a hard call, I realize, but I'm having difficulty finding large enough stock exotic wood from suppliers. I need 4"x4"x5" per stem. Using small glue blocks did not work with the cocobolo; some did, most flew when I was working on the center of the stem. I did the tenon thing Wally suggested and used CA or TiteBond II, and scored both surfaces. The cocobolo just had too much natural oil, I guess.
Thanks for your opinions.
