Need Phone number for General Industrial Supply

>It seems their web site is down. Has anyone bought one of their scratch and dent lathes? I just found myself in the market for a new lathe and am looking at the Powermatic 3520A.

>Their ph# is 1-800-371-2220. I bought an S&D Jet 1236 from them, no complaints here. I did have some trouble with it, but I think it's an inherent design flaw, and I was able to fix after a couple hours of futzing. As far as out-of-the-box quality, GIS assembles and tests all their S&D items before they ship them out. Other than one corner of a "Jet" sticker being slightly lifted, I couldn't have told you how mine qualified for S&D--it was in excellent shape.

>Ric, I am leaving almost as we speak to go to GI to pick up some lathes and dust filters and collectors. I should be there by 2pm today. TD

>You might also consider Redmond and Sons in Atlanta. They have scratch and dent things as well as used. That's where I got my Jet 1442. I don't have their number handy, but I'm sure 411 in Atlanta will have it.

If you end up coming this direction let me know and I'll drive down with you. It's fun to go to General Industrial even if your not buying something.

>Trying to sort out all the available options is like buying a car, except I spend more time behind a gouge than I do a steering wheel.

Thanks again, the search is on.

>Yes, I told him he had to give me another weekend, so I could say good-bye. We've been together for 5 years and a month. Everything still working great, just wanted to go bigger.

>Do I read that you are getting rid of the old lathe. If you do, you will regret it.

The old lathe is always handy for use as a holder for finishing; or making that odd piece, a spindle, or weed pot when you have a piece in the big lathe. Even if you never use it as a lathe, it will make a good variable speed buffer; or as good a disc sander as anything you can buy, and it will have a variable speed.

I got rid of the old lathe when we moved from FL, but I have since corrected that mistake.

>Hi Rick,

I too just upgraded to a bigger lathe. I called GIS and was treated great. Howevert he 3520A was going to be a while. and other things poped up I was given the nod to go big withthe 4224 powermatic. It came well crated. It did have 3 scratches but that is all i have found so fare. I have yet to turn on it for i had to make room inthe shop. But i have big plans this week end. So i was very pleased withthe purchase and as long as nothing pops up I would not hesitate to buy from them again. I will let you know after this week end how she runs.

>I had that thought Russ, but shop size is a limiting factor for me. But you are right, there have been a few times when another lathe would have been handy.
