There are two Jet Mini's on the market now...the original that requires manual speed/belt adjustment, and the new variable speed model. $299 is the going price for the VS model, while the older version can be had for $200 or less.

I've had the VS model in my shop since it first came out last fall, consistantly putting around 20 hours a week on it, and its held up fine. 10 hours a day is a lot of time on any lathe...at that rate, and assuming you're selling these boxes, you should be able to afford just about any lathe on the market...good luck.

I worked it pretty hard, at least 30 hrs a week -- in a non-air conditioned shop in the Texas summer. Well, the solenoid on the motor finally fried. Jet sent me a new motor, charged me for it, but credited my card when they received the name plate off the motor. They were quick and accomodating. The 1/2 hp motor has a hard time with the larger stuff (10"), naturally, but it's a solid, well thought out lathe. The 1" spindle is very substantial for the size turning you can do on it.
