Spalted Apple

3" x 3" x 1/8", Lacquer Finish. This wood was from a tree that fell in our yard a few years ago. My wife wanted me to make something out of it. Knowing apple loves to warp and split I didn't have to much confidence that I would be able to do anything with it. Last year I did make a small (rectangle) box using the apple as a inlay on the lid.
I had a chunk left that I rough out the shape back in August, sealed it, tossed it into a bag. When I decided to finish it, I notice a small hairline crack. I tryed soaking the bowl in Wally's 50/50 mixture of glue and water. A few days later I pulled the bowl out and and placed it on my bench to dry. The next day the hairline crack was now big enough to fit a house key in. Disappointed, I left it on my bench. A few weeks later, I was ready to toss this into the trash when I noticed the crack closed up
