the bowl is my version of a-Molly bowl (just love her work); however, it's a weave pattern from a 22g coil i made w/ the new razortip post-pen i'm testing. the black-color is from burning, burnished w/a paperbag and then finished. tried for a japanese-form. the wood is 'neighbor-wood'.

the smaller vase is a carob piece (all natural color). The large vase in the back is tulipwood. The bowl is sycamore (1 of 3 cored from a log-section).

This is a two-part sculptural (sycamore & steel) piece where I tried to incorporate the wood and steel into a story.

The design is burned and colored. The metal is from old square nails beaten and braized into submission.

...and the 'story' is how the lotus flower struggles through the chaos and murk to find the 'light', and blossom into enlightenment. (ok, ok ...i can hear the groaning from here :>)

'22g' = 22 gauge nichrome wire used to make your own tips on a woodburning pen.

'neighbor-wood' is any hunk of unidentifiable wood a neighbor gives you.

What's a "22g coil"? Would that be a wire from a 22 guage coil?

What's a "razortip post pen"? Would that be a pyrography tool?

What's "neighborwood"? Would that be undetermined free wood that you got from a neighbor or around the neighborhood?

Sorry, I didn't know anyone else was using the same technique. Regardless, it is a a very nice piece.

By the way, spring sprung here a while back. I just mowed the lawn for the fifth time.

I saw the news and video of the snow ... yikes!

But it's too hot here -- especially for being only March. The lilacs have all faded since the picture and I have had to water to keep the tulips from giving up.
