But the big selling point for purchase now was KMS Tools in BC, had a few older ones in stock for $500.00 off the regular price and I thought I better get it now. I checked out a few of the models and was not impressed with Oneway's price or 4 month delivery. Their website showed $1850 US$, which works out to be approx. $2600 CAN$. But they quoted me $2850 CAN$. And I said NO THANKS.

If they cannot do a conversion on the dollar then I cannot find myself able to write them a cheque for a new lathe.

I was all set to order one for June when I have some money coming in. It was that item only that has made me look else were for a lathe. I have not ruled them out completely but I am open minded now where I wasn't before.

Are they good lathes Yes - Are they the only maker in the world. NO.

I have been using a DVR for a little over a year now and love it. I'm sure you will to. If you can, contact More Woodturning and get their back issues with a 4 part in depth analysis of the DVR written by Lyn Mangiameli. They are very good and will give you some good, easy modifications to make it even better. Did you get the one with 250 or 100 as the lowest rpm?

I used to subscribe to More Woodturning, but canceled and do not have any of the old issues.

I also notice there are several people who are re-wiring their DVR's to 220. Is this necessary?

Most DVR owners eventually do rewire to 220v, it is very simple and makes a world of difference For the post about KMS discount of $500 for some older units, check to make sure what the lowest RPM setting would be, the older ones go down to 250 and the newer go to a more manageable 100 RPM's.

>My DVR will be 2 years old in April, I had the first one off the rack here in Atlanta. The tail center was OK, but I replaced it with a bigger one last year and added vacuum chucking as well. Mine runs on 120V and has a min speed of 250. I've had a great time with it and would recommend it to anyone who wants a bigger lathe that won't break the budget or collapse the house.

I converted mine to 220 and I seem to have better torque in the lower rpms. That would make it stall out less, but you can still stall it out at lower rpms. I consider it a safety feature that it will stall out if pushed to hard. I would rather have the lathe stop turning than jerk a chisel out of my hand and send it across the room. Other than that, I can't really tell any difference. It a great lathe, whether you run it off of 110 or 220. I like how quite and smooth it runs. It would be very good for using to do demos with.
