>Anybody ever hear of, or know anything about, the Vega lathes? Particularly the 1596 model, with and without the optional inverter system.

I just received a reference to the Vega website. I have never heard of this particular piece of machinery and didn't even know anyone in the USA still built lathes.

>Wolf, I turned on the 2400 bowl lathe at the NC woodturners Symposium back in Nov. I really like the machine. Had the opportunity to buy my woodfast not fallen in my lap, I was actually planning on the 2400. It is a bit non-traditional, but well thought out and well made. You might want to contact vega and see if they have an owner in your area so that you can check out one live.

>Thanks, Joel. I contacted Vega earlier to have them send me a catalog, price list, etc. It seems they make a really long lathe. I had my mind pretty much made up for a Vicmarc but now I gotta check out the Vega before I do anything.
