walnut tree trunk

>Help, I have 3 large pieces (30 dia, 16 wide) of a walnut tree that was cut down this past week? I have 3 more some 20 dia by 18-20 wide and a couple of parts of same trunk. What do I do with the wood to get it ready for turning. Yes I can get the rest of the trunk, but those pieces are bigger yet so I thinking of taking a chain saw to them. So next ?, how to go about cutting these. Thanks for your help.

The grain in the root system is unbelievable. If you can, by all means grab it.

>You'll probably want to split the rounds lengthwise through the pith with a chainsaw and get it sealed with Anchorseal or equivalent on the ends as soon as you can. If it's still cold where you are, the sap wood should still be pretty white. But it's been my experience, after walnut is cut a while and it starts warming up, the white will begin to darken a little and not necessarily uniformly, but somewhat blotchy.
