Terry Daniel Demo
Mark Kauder, Phenix City, AL
>Today, I had the good fortune to host our very own Terry Daniel at my club for a demo.
Terry and his very nice 16 yr old son Mitch drove down last night and spent the night at my house. Terry got to see my little shop, and now knows why his VB36 won't be in there anytime soon. We got to talk about 1/2 an hour before bedtime (were any of your ears burning?).
This morning we went over to the local Tech College, and unloaded the VB36 out of Terry's trailer (or should I say that Terry, Mitch, and a security guard with a forklift). And then had time to talk with club members who showed up early.
At 9am, we had a short productive business meeting. We established our Lathe fund - got club member commitments for $900, and actually collected $600 on the spot.
At 9:30am and for the following 4 hours T.D. gave a great demo on bowl turning, sharpening fingernail grind gouges and finishing on the VB36. Really a great demo. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Another benefit of T.D. coming down, was that he brought some nice wood that we could purchase. He brought some freshly cut Ambrosia Sycamore. I bought a slab that produced three 14"x3.5" blanks (yes, I know I have a 10" Mini - someday - someday), and I traded T.D. for a 14"x6" blank of beautiful Box Elder (again - someday).
Standing outside my house this afternoon, T.D. and I again talked for 30-40 minutes.
All in All a great day. The weather was great, and be company was even better.
Thanks Terry and Mitch of a Great Demo, and A great day.
Mark
