>Chuch-usual answer is drive center line at your elbow, but some like it a little higher. Just make it where you feel comfortable after standing there for 6~8 hrs! Your back will tell you if its the right height for you!

>Chuck, correct lathe spindle height is an individual thing. The old rule is bent elbow height, but that's really for spindle turning. Nearly all of my turning is hollow vessels, and I want to be able to stand comfortably while using my Stewart hollowing tool. That puts the spindle at about 3 inches above my elbow. That height also works well for open bowl turning. Having to bend down for long periods at the lathe can be tough on the back. I suggest that you try different heights by blocking your lathe up.
