>This piece is maple. After turning, the whole piece is dyed black and then returned to cut the black off the outside. Then I dyed the exterior and finished with spray lacquer. This piece is about 12 inches high and about 12 inches at its widest.

>The dyes are transtint concentrates from Homestead. the black is mixed with alcohol and sprayed. The green is actually mixed directly in the lacquer to create a toner and the color is built through about 4 coats. It's topcoated with several coats of clear.

I hope you don't mind if I critique this piece. You did a great job on the form, and I think the blue dye really works well with the black.
I think ( as always, my opinion, take with a grain of salt) if you were to wet-sand and polish the finish, the piece would be outstanding.
The piece is so attractive, it deserves the extra attention. great job,Keith

Got a couple of tech questions.
1) How did you keep the dyed coat from coloring between the segements and intruding into the black inside.
2) One of the reasons I have not lacquered anything with open segments, is that I was afraid of quality of the finish in between the segments and the resulting overspray on the inside. How did you address this.
However you did it, it sure looks good from here.
