What to look for in a lathe?
Rob in Kansas
>With the garage sale/auction season comming up I was thinking about the possibility of finding my first lathe. What kind of features or make/model should I be looking for in both a lathe and tools? Also, if possible what a market value should be.
As you might have seen before I have a LARGE supply of osage orange on one unlce's farm, and walnut, black & honey locust, oak, mulberry, hackberry, cottonwood, elm, and if I'm lucky some box elder from another uncle & grandfather's.
I would like to have something that I can learn on starting out with some bowls and have room to grow later. I will have my band saw running soon to cut blanks from logs.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA
And Bart Castleberry if you read this I went out last weekend and the fields were too wet to drive on without tearing them up. I'll go out soon and get started. Send me an email & I'll start cutting up blanks for you.
