Sharpening ?

>Recently I got a pretty good deal on a Jet Mini lathe, not the new VS model, and some pen turning supplies and equipment. I had been thinking about a mini lathe for a while (don't have space for larger size). I wanted to be able to turn Shaker style knobs for cabinets doors and drawers. I have zero experience on a lathe and will be taking a pen turning class at the local Woodcraft in the near future.
My question has to do with sharpening turning tools. I have a couple of bench grinders, the Delta Universal slow speed wet grinder and a Tiawanese 8" slow speed (1725 rpm) model sold at Woodcraft. I would like to use the 8" grinder to sharpen my turning tools. I had planned to get the Wolverine sharpening jig with the vari-grind attachment. I know I'll be using a 1/2" fingernail gouge, a parting tool, probably a roughing gouge, and eventually a skew chisel. Kelton has recently come out with a jig similar to the Wolverine.
I'd like your recommendations on which is the best purchase for a beginner, or does it matter. I know there was a string a few days ago on this topic, but I was wondering if there are any updates. Setup and ease of use (as well as results) are key factors for me.
