Turning Topic for Tonight

TDaniel

>Tonight's topic is the Fingernail gouge. This is the one tool that every bowlturner should have and know how to sharpen and use. There are many cuts that can be made with it and there are many shapes or profiles that can be put on this tool. Some of the cuts that we may describe tonight may be impossible to make with the profile you are using; check the grinds library at the top left of this page to see the shape of the grind we will primarily be referring to. Whatever works for you is "right" and whatever doesn't work is wrong; what I use is right for me.....there are a lot of grinds that work and there are lots of ways to present the tool that work; there are also certain things that are hazardous and should be avoided. Join us at 9pm eastern for mingling and we'll start the topic at 9:30.

>I didn't get to check for the topic and scrambled to get out of the shop to get into the chatroom to discuss toolrest height only to find a discussion of sharpening and jigs. Mildly disappointed but will look forward to seeing the topic another time. First time on the chatroom-very interesting. Just lurked in the background to see how things go.

Thanks, Don
