I posted a message on this forum requesting information on a meeting or activity in the Phoenix area during my visit in January, Sean Troy quickly responded and invited me to attend their Arizona Woodturners meeting at Hartwood in Tempe. This was the first woodturning meeting I ever attended. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, just like I was an old member. I even won a mesquite blank that will have special meaning to me when it becomes a bowl. It was a great experience and a meeting everyone should attend if they are in the Phoenix area. I think it is a great organization! I�m sure this is not a unique experience to travelers in all areas of the country.
After seeing the involvement and sharing I took Sean�s advice and joined the AAW (I just got the March issue and it is nearly worn out).
Tonight I will be attending the closest AAW chapter in Superior, WI, 130 miles. (Lake Superior Woodturners) to join and help if necessary. If you read my previous post you must agree the association will be a big help for me.
Thanks again to all the members for their hospitality. To the fellow that was trying to teach me how to true the face of a mesquite bowl without plowing in or chatter I finally understood the angle and pressure and with practice at home, your instruction was successful.
