I love the brass wire inlay. It looks like sheet brass and not wire. Can you tell better that it is wire when holding the piece? Also, can you walk me through your process for starting the wrap, avoiding kinks, and ending the wrap?

I've turned a little Tasmanian Myrtle, in fact I have a couple of rough turned pieces drying now. I don't think that it'll turn brown, but it will turn a darker shade of red. Nice wood to turn.

Nice stuff there! I like the myrtle. I turned a small hunk of it last summer and it still has a nice redish/rose type color to it. I turned it green and it has moved quite a bit.

I like the brass treatment and rim, it really looks great.

I used a parting tool to make a very shallow rabbet. I then drilled a tiny hole at the edge of the rabbet and I inserted the end of the wire with CA glue. I then hand turned the bowl and wound the wire to fill the rabbet. I used a little CA glue to bind the wire at the finish end.

I described the process above but the wire came on a spool...sorry, I don't know the guage. To avoid kinks?....wind very slowly!! ;-). Trust me...it took patience. A little secret....CA glue disappears between the wires but works wonders!

It's about 6-7" dia. and about 4.5" tall. It is Tasmanian Myrtle....I loved turning it. It was my first time with that wood. Gorgeous stuff.
