Vari-Grind Problems
George Van
>I am doing something or many things wrong while grinding my Sorby bowl gouge. I am using the Wolverine Jig. The areas that are black are from the previous attempt and not being ground this time. My Vari grind jig leg is all the way down as shown in Wood magazine. It protrudes 1 from the end. I ground the nose to 65, and then ground the wings. I watched the video by Oneway before and after. The first time I ended up with concave edges.
As I use it now it is very easy yo catch on all but the nose. I have the feeling that the minute I rotate off the bevel I get a catch. When I turn the bowl by hand I get a good curl but it does seem to want to dig in.
I did a search and went through all the articles. I do not know how to explain the side angle. Is my problem a simple adjustment? Is it too involved for an explanation?
Thanks, George
