Problem with Nat. Edge Bowl

>I do not understand what I did wrong. I am about to loose the natural edge if I make the bowl wall any thinner. I started with the bark face on a screw chuck, then rechucked on the jaws to turn the face and the photos show the problem.

It looks to me like you are succumbing to the optical illusion produced when turning such a bowl. It looks like you are trying to get the wall thickness even by removing more and more material up near the top of the bowl, when you should in fact be cutting down towards the bottom. The side walls of the bowl which are lower remain thick looking because you have not cut down far enough into the interior to thin them down. This bowl might not make it, but try cutting down instead of out and see what happens.

I will go back to the shop and give it a try. You are correct; I was working by the upper lip before I went deeper as I was worried about the bowl becoming too fragile if I brought the whole center out evenly.
