Turning Lessons

>This is actually a Stealth Gloat - I had my very first turning lesson yesterday with our distinguish member - Bill Grumbine.
I was a complete novice - having never used a lathe before. Learning from Bill was a wonderful experience. His understanding of how to teach to the proper level of the student is remarkable. He took me from stock prep using a chain saw and band saw to lathe mounting techniques, sharpening techniques, the proper tools to use, etc. What a great day I had.
I also want to mention the incredible hospitality of the entire Grumbine family. They took me and my turning partner into their homes and treated us like members of their family.
I can certainly see why turning is so addictive - It is really a thrill to take a chunk of tree and see it transform before your eyes (and hands) into a thing of beauty.
I'll be hanging out on this forum now that I've been initiated into the world of turning.
