Separating the wheat from the chaff

>I started experimenting today with making metal powder to use in patching voids and cracks.
I found that a 4" grinder with a cutting wheel works better than a ROS with 40grit paper (bigger chunks and less abrasive residue.) Both methods, however leave some abrasive material in with the powder.
Any suggestions for separating the metal powder from the abrasive particals? I have tried blowing softly, but evidently the abrasive is heaviest.
Thanks,
