>Are there any bowl saver systems that will work with the Jet mini?
I got some logs last weekend that I can JUST fit on the jet mini for bowls , (about 7 1'2 " diameter) and MAN are there a lot of chips...I was wondering if there's a system that will fit the JEt Mini, to save the waste and get a better yield from the logs?
To the best of my knowledge there is no bowl saver sized for the Jet Mini. You can, however, accomplish almost the same thing with a parting tool. I've cored many bowls of the size you can turn on your Jet Mini using a parting tool. I find it works best if the top of the bowl blank is mounted to a faceplate. Turn the outside of the bowl to shape, including any foot. Sand and finish. Move your tool rest around so that you can then cut from the top of the bowl (headstock side) and part down to the proper depth. Then pop the bowl on the side and it will generally break loose.
Turn a new foot and shape the outside of the blank to the desired outside shape, sand and finish.
You are now ready to final turn the inside of both bowls.
