Leave it to the little lady
Mike Schwing from Md
>My shop is in the basement. Granted I've got the whole basement, save for the clothes washer and dryer. Still, I'm a bit obsessive compulsive about cleanliness and dust issues. I aspire to be Terry Hatfield as far as dust collection goes.
I've segmented the main basement into three areas - one has the tablesaw, dust collector, and planer. The next has the lathe and bandsaw, and the third has a chopsaw and lumber/blank storage. Its that way based on dust issues - the tablesaw and planer producing minimal dust, the lathe and bandsaw - a lot.
I've boxed the lathe area in while turning by hanging tarps, not very efficient but pretty effective.
Mrs. Schwing walks down the basement with a load of laundry while I'm hanging the tarps preparing to do some lathe work, looks at what I'm doing, and says
"You should set that up on rods like they're shower curtains."
Brilliant and perfect! An absolutely perfect solution. Now I've got some design work to do...
BTW, the shopvac aircleaner is a REALLY nice tool.
