Good reliable grinder?

>I have Woodcraft's slow-speed grinder, and the bearings are already on their way out. It's a year and a half old. Can someone recommend a good solid 8" grinder that will last a while? I'm not sure i can swallow the Baldor price tag at the moment, but i sure would like something solid. Thanks.

I've had mine about two years of moderate use with no problems. It runs very smoothly, and takes about 45 seconds to spin down after you turn off the power, with about thirty-seconds before the starter switch re-engages.

>I considered that one, until i saw it was made in China. I really am trying not to buy any more machines produced in countries where worker safety isn't even considered. I may not succeed in that endeavor, but i'm trying nonetheless.

If only thing wrong with it is bearings, thats no reason to put it in the landfill. Replace the bearings with good double sealed ones and grinder will probably give several more years of life.
I'd go with Fafnir double sealed and you'll probably spend about $20.00.
One and half years is actually pretty good for Taiwan or Japanese bearings.
Don't buy shielded bearings make sure they are called sealed bearings.

It may be a year and a half old, but, after doing lots of research on grinders, I didn't see any reports of premature bearing failure on their slow speed grinder. Perhaps you got a defective set of bearings for which they'd pay part of the replacement cost.

If I had it to do over, I would look long and hard at the Woodcraft ginder. It gets very good reviews and its half the price of the Delta.
