Price of Cherry Wood

>I have a chance to buy some cherry wood, rough sawn, for $4 a foot. Is this a good price??? I plan to use it for segmented bowls along with the birds eye maple that I already have. I haven't done segmented work yet but plan to learn in the near future.

Around here (northern Md) the stores carry kiln dried cherry anywhere from $6-8/bf. There are other sources locally though that sell air dried 4/4 rough cut for $2/ft. There's usually more waste on the $2/ft stuff but not enough to justify buying the $$ stuff.

If the wood is well-dried, then I think that $4.00 bd/ft is a decent price. If it isn't dry, be sure to make it dry before you use it for segmented work.

>Thanks for the tip Gary. My understanding is the wood is quiet old and has been in storage for quiet a few years so it should be plenty dry by now.
