Just a thought about linked pictures

>Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is possible or not for everyone, but I just wanted to post this request and hear what you all had to say. I also wonder if there is anyone else in this situation of if it is unique to me.

Over the past year or so, the membership at Woodcentral has grown substantially. Here on the Turning Forum, we've seen our fair share of growth as well. I really enjoy seeing the pictures of all of your turnings.

Like many of you, I do the majority of my browsing at my desktop computer in work (during breaks of course). One unfortunate side effect is that a lot of your photos are from sites that our Web-blocker software views as "restricted" and therefore blocks. I believe the software sees them as "personal sites", and therefore not work related. This is not the case with WC's photos. I can always see them.

I'd like to see more people post their photos here on Woodcentral. What do you think?

If it is just a matter of you viewing it as a lengthy process, posting multiple photos on WC is not that hard. You just do what I do. First page is PIC #1. Then you respond to your own post, upload another photos, and change the name to PIC#2, etc, etc.

Another benefit is that the photos will be archived ont he server here. When storing them on your own website, the photos may end up being unavailable after several months time.

If storing the photo on WC's server is not possible, perhaps using FreePicHosting.com is another way you might go. I can see photos linked to this sites. I use this method on occasion for larger photos. But mostly I upload to this site.

Anyway, thanks for listening.

See ya around,

My ugly mug

>Hey Dominic, Your method is the way I do it also and what you say makes sense. I think sometimes people may have trouble getting the file size down to the required size. If this is your problem just download PiXresizer and your problem is solved. Just do a "google" to find it. Now Dom, back to work; break is over. :) Alan in Md.

>Hmmmm...tough one. While I'd like you to be able to see the pics I post I put them on my own drive space because I use them in other places as well. If I have only one method of doing so I know where they are and what the syntax is at all times. Uploading to each website I might want to link them on is problematic in that regard. BTW, if it were only woodworking pics, the volume wouldn't be so big that it'd be a hassle to do it the way you suggest. I'm however, plagued with hobbies! (no kids)

>The problem I see is after a couple of days the pictures are lost and forgotten. This is especially true if the picture is posted on a weekend.

I think what would be nice is an album of photos that we could download our images into. This way if someone wanted to see one of your bowls for inspiration that was posted in July of last year, all they'd have to do is look into your album, see your gallery of work and click on the picture they are looking for.

The images are already uploaded to this site but trying to find them.....
