>I'm fortunate to have Alan Lacer local to me in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. I've taken three of his classes at our local Woodcraft store. I started with his basic turning classes, then lidded boxes and finally his skew class. I still don't consider myself an expert with the skew but I no longer fear picking it up after taking his class.
Also, Alan was our guest demonstrator at the February meeting of the Minnesota Woodturners Association.

>Wow. I think I need to take one of those courses. I've finally started using the skew on some spindle work, but only on straigh handles. I do love the smooth finish it leaves so I'd like to get to where I can use it on larger pieces. Are you to the point of useing on larger stuff? if so, any tips?

>Hi Bert, remember, the skew works very well on small intricate turnings as well. I think you will gain better skills on the small stuff anyway. Also less chance of the dreaded catch.
On a bigger turning, use a bigger skew, less chance of the long point catching. The small tops I posted below were done with the skew.
