Not only burl, but spalted to boot. Nice piece of wood you pulled out of the firewood stack. At first I thought that the very bottom foot was too small. But when I took a second look at the second pic and looked at both sides, I saw that the curve does inded flow continualy through the bead. Way to go. I've used the Crystal Coat on pens many times. In that application, I don't care for it, doesn't hold up long enough for me. But for a bowl I think I'll have to give it a try. You're initial results look great. Keep up the good work.

I just keep proving my point again and again - I'm a newbie and don't know what I'm doing. The guy who sent me this obviously knew a lot more about maple burl than I.
