Wood Turners in the Eastern Ontario Region

Ryan D., Renfrew, Ontario

>I've been looking around for some cheap bowl blanks in the area, but haven't been able to find anybody who sells them locally. Is there anyone in the Eastern Ontario area what could tell me if there is any places to buy blanks? Or, if any one would be willing to provide me with some fresh cut logs, it would be greatly appreciated. (preferably soft maple - Red Maple, Silver Maple, Box Elder, though I don't think there is too many Elders up here.)

I'm only 14 and dont really have any ties with people who would be able to cut and prepare the logs for me. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

>Ryan,

Look up Jacques Coulombe in Montreal. He has an 800 number and you can pull up a few links to turners around you from his site at the link below.

Good Luck

>Ryan,

Look in your local newspaper or the advertising papers for firewood suppliers. You would probably be best getting freshly cut wood from them since when they let it dry they don't bother about it cracking.

Lee Valley sells some blanks but they aren't cheap.

>Ryan:

Try the link for the local turning club in Ottawa. You should have lots of nice hardwoods in the Renfrew area.

Call the municipality as they probably have a local yard or dump where you could get all you need for the taking.
