>has cost me again. After reading Mark Kauder's article about the dc motor I ordered one. I had a line on a mini lathe w/o the motor(Jet). I was able to catch the owner in town and he agreed to sell me the lathe. While we were having coffee, I told him what I was going to do with it and even where I bought the motor. By the time I got to his house, he had already called and ordered a motor and decided to keep the lathe.

I guess it is too late for me to learn...but does anyone know where I can find one of the Maoshan lathes?

>Not sure how these Maoshan lathes are, but in the latest Penn State catalog, they have a "turncrafter pro" that looks similar to the Jet-style mini lathe......

>The one below is too close spec-wise not to be the same thing relabeled and priced up a bit. You know the Jet without VS is just under $200 at Amazon?

>Yes, I did see the Jet there...even a $25 instant rebate. I just hate that I talked myself out of that same one (he said it was the old Jet blue). I picked up on the Maoshan because it looks like the General. I have no need for an extra motor, but I will most likely end up with the small jet, but I will look for awhile longer.

"looks like" ??

>Read the specs (speeds, length, weight all match exactly) and look at the pictures closely. I think it is the General. An exclusive marketing agreement might explain why you can't find it under another label. Get the Jet. That model (and therefore that deal) is going to disapear soon. If you can't figure out a use for the spare motor, send it to me. :-)

>I am saving my pennies for a Woodrat and that is why I am being so tightfisted about this. My wife is going to retire due to the new law that would prevent her from drawing my SS if I die before her. It closes July 1 so she must retire before then in order to be eligible.

I guess I will just keep waiting to find a used Jet. But if I change my mind, I just might think about sending you that motor ;0)
